Rounding Rules

Last Updated: Wed Nov 22 2023

Rounding Rules are configured in Setup / Usage Rating / Rate Types / Rounding Rules

Overview

Rounding Rules permit you to apply minimum and incremental usage rules to usage records when rating occurs. For example, mobility/voice customers could be billed for a full minute for all inbound and outbound calls and billed in six second increments when the call lasts longer than one minute.

The rounding rules you create here are configurable on usage rates.

Prerequisites

Rounding rules can be setup in the system immediately, there are no prerequisite configuration steps.

The Rounding Rules Panel

The Rounding Rules panel on the left of this screen allows you to select existing rules to view or edit within the Edit Rounding Rule Panel to the right. Actions are also available which are shown as icons above the Filter text box. The available actions are described below.

Rounding Rules List

The listing on the left panel shows rounding rules that are currently configured. Rounding rules in the list will also display their key configuration details.

When you select a rounding rule in the list its configuration details will be displayed on the Edit Rounding Rule Panel to the right. These details are explained below.

The Edit Rounding Rule Panel

The information in this panel reflects the currently selected rounding rule. From here you can modify a rule's configuration (note: fields with a magenta left border are required).

  • Name: a unique name for the rounding rule

  • Active: indicates if the rounding rule is active/available. If the rule is not active it won’t be listed when selecting rounding rules on the usage rates configuration screen

  • Base Unit Type: the usage type that is being rounded up (count, data or time)

  • Unit Type: the unit to use for rounding in relation to the base unit type selected (e.g. Megabytes)

  • Minimum: the minimum usage value. For instance, round all calls up to 60 seconds when the call length is less than 60 seconds long

  • Increment: the usage increment after the minimum value has been met. For instance, rounding all calls up to 60 seconds (minimum value) and then rounding time usage over 60 seconds by 10 second increments. A call lasting 1 minute and 1 second would be billed for 1 minute and 10 seconds if you used a rounding rule set with a minimum of 60 and an increment of 10

  • Sort Order: the order the rounding rule will appear in when selecting from the rounding rule drop down list on usage rates. This value must be greater than zero
