Last Updated: Fri Nov 17 2023

Usage Class Types are configured in Setup / Usage Rating / Rate Types / Class Type

Overview

Class types are optional elements that allow you to categorize classes for reporting or mediation purposes. For example, you may wish to categorize SMS classes by whether they are mobile originating or mobile terminating, or categorize voice related classes by whether they are on-net, off-net, land line, mobile, VoIP, etc.

Prerequisites

Class types can be configured immediately, there are no prerequisite configuration steps.

The Class Types Panel

The Class Types on the left of this screen allows you to select a class type so that you can view or edit its configuration details. Actions are also available which are shown as icons above the Filter text box. Available actions are described below.

Class Types List

The list on the left of the screen shows the class types that are currently configured in the system.

When you select a class type in the list configuration settings for the selected class will be shown in the Edit Class Type Panel to the right. These settings are explained in more detail below.

The Edit Class Type Panel

The information in this panel reflects the currently selected class type. From here you can change the class type details (note: fields with a magenta left border are required).

Class Fields:

  • Name: a unique and descriptive name for the class type

  • Sort Order: the order the class type will appear when selecting from a drop down list of class types (must be a value greater than zero)

References tab

This section displays where the selected class type is used in the system. By default, the reference data is displayed in a summary format to indicate where the class type is in use, however the Entity drop down field can be used to view the exact system objects that the class type is configured on.

Adding Class Types

  1. Under the Class Types heading on the left click the (emoji) icon

  2. Under the Add Class Type heading configure the new class type settings

  3. Click Save when finished

Next, proceed to modify those entities to use an alternate class type.
