VoIP BILLING VIA GATEWAY
In the following VoIP Billing scenario, a service provider or enterprise positions a "VoIP device" (i.e. Cisco, Quintum) at a gateway. The gateway receives packetized voice transmissions from the calling party using an IP phone or VoIP enabled device. The information is then passed to the VoIP Billing Software Module enabled EngageIP Billing server which in turn matches the call number and rate to it's internal rating engine and passes the information back through a RADIUS server to the gateway. Once this process is complete the calling party is connected to his/her destination.
Upon disconnecting, the gateway then sends a final call-stop record to the EngageIP VoIP Billing Software which then logs the call duration and rate charged which is used to bill the client.
SAMPLE CALLING SCENARIO

PLACING THE CALL
- Caller A places call via an IP phone
- Gateway receives voice transmission
- Information is passed to the EngageIP Billing Server's rating engine
- Information collected passes through a RADIUS server
- Caller A is connected with Caller B
BILLING FOR THE CALL
- Caller B terminates call
- Gateway receives voice transmission and sends information to RADIUS server
- RADIUS server sends final stop record and duration to EngageIP Billing server
- Call is rated and Caller A is billed for the call
In regards to the prepaid functionality, LogiSense Corporation offers the EngageIP Prepaid Billing Module which must be installed if you are planning to offer this service to your customers.
